Green All-Star

allison-gannett1

Alison Gannett is better known as a World Champion extreme big mountain freeskier and competitive endurance mountain biker, but Global Kinect is more in awe that a women with such talent would dedicate her life to global betterment, as a global cooling consultant.

“I’m traveling around, talking to people about what they can do during the day and giving a presentation about my global adventures at night. My presentation is promoted more as an adventure sports show and less as a climate change show. I think that’s the ticket because otherwise you’re just preaching to the choir. If I’m in a surf town, I talk a lot about surfing. I try to tie in the predominant sport in the area. That way, people realize, hey, this is going to affect me. This is affecting my wave, my wildflowers, my snow. I better get on it,” as stated in National Geographic Adventure.

Alison wants to motivate people to begin small and expand their green efforts with her patent methodology called CROP
. It stands for Calculate your carbon footprint, Reduce your carbon footprint, Offset your carbon footprint, and Produce your own power.

Check out alisongannett.com and watch featured videos on her idea and initatitives on what you can do to contribute to saving our planet for future generations.

HAPPY EARTH DAY

earth-day-pic6

Today marks yet another year of celebration for all that is GREEN! There has been a strong push, in all sectors of the world, for the use of renewable energy. Today President Obama is in Iowa, touring at Trinity Structural Towers, the former Maytag plant which now houses a green manufacturing facility that produces towers for wind energy production.

President Obama stated, “Iowa , a leader in wind energy, is a perfect example of how a community can rebuild a local economy with investments in clean energy and efficiency. Trinity employs dozens of former Maytag employees and is part of the revitalization of a town hard hit by the closing of the Maytag plants.” This visit will hopefully solidify the President’s efforts to direct $15 billion annually for 10 years directed to the renewable-energy industry.

For a more personal take on the day, there are various ways you can join the one billion people around the world celebrating Earth Day:

· Go see: Disney’s movie “Earth” is out in theaters today and for every ticket sold from now until April 28th, Disney will plant a tree. Currently, a half a million trees are projected to be planted, based off of ticket pre-sales.

· Attend: Project Earth Day takes place April 23, 2009, The USGBC Emerging Green Builders NY have teamed up with Project Earth Day to provide a platform for the green minded and future leaders in the building and fashion industries. Go and experience the forefront of sustainable high fashion. http://www.projectearthday.com/

· Check out: “The Story of Stuff” is a 20 minute fun factoid video clip exposing the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues as it pertains to society’s production and consumption patterns, asking viewers to create a more sustainable world. http://www.storyofstuff.com/

· Buy: Reusable bags. In a landfill, plastic bags take up to 1,000 years to degrade. As the plastic bag breaks down the tiny particles contaminate soil and waterways. Be apart of the solution and purchase reusable bags. http://www.reusablebags.com/

Keep Cosmetic Packaging Out of Landfills

or1

On Thursday April 2, Global Kinect had the pleasure of partaking in the launch of “Return to Origins” Recycling Program along with Gossip Girl’s Kelly Rutherford, Allure magazine Editor-in-Chief Linda Wells and Origins Senior Vice President/General Manager Jane Lauder. Excited consumers at GM Plaza were armed with their recycled goods and rewarded with new Origins product and equipped with knowledge about their beauty and the environment.

The premise of the event was for consumers to bring empty beauty jars, bottles and or tubes, regardless of brands, to be recycled and in return the first 250 contributors received a free deluxe size A Perfect World Intensely hydrating body cream with White tea, plus Origins provided free A Perfect World™ hand and arm massages to all attendees. This event spread awareness about the fact that most cosmetic and toiletry bottles, tubes, caps and jars are not easily recognized as recyclable goods and as a result, these items account for 1/3 of all landfill waste.

The event was an absolute success, Global Kinect loved Origins concept of reaching their consumers by offering knowledge and free goodies! In addition to this event, Origins will have receptacles for empty cosmetic containers at over 450 Origins retail stores and department store counters nationwide.

The company’s mission is one of philanthropy, donating money from the sale of its jewelry to rainforest conservation.

Global Kinect Partners With BEF

 b-e-f-and-gk-logo1

Global Kinect is excited to be partnering with the non-profit Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) to support renewable energy. By working with BEF we are now offsetting all of our office electricity use with clean, wind energy. Our support of wind energy is helping to keep at least 9,100 pounds of CO2 out of the air. That’s the equivalent of keeping a car parked for a whole year. You can find out more about BEF and how to reduce your carbon footprint by visiting www.b-e-f.org.com. - A. Lam
